Support for ShadowDOM
ShadowDOM is a "new" way to handle encapsulation in web applications https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_components/Using_shadow_DOM
It is also a challenge for test automation.
BugBug doesn't support this technology today. We plan to add support for capturing and executing all interactions within ShadowDOM elements.

Recorder and runner work with shadowDom. We also covered complex scenarios like nested shadow dom, a mix of shadow dom and iframe, and closed shadow dom 🤯

The time has come. We have started working on this again, and this time we plan to ship it, building on what we have learnt from our previous attempt.

We're experiencing a similar issue with our application. While we have a traditional Rails app, we also use web components that leverage the Shadow DOM. Right now, these components aren't testable in BugBug, which is a critical requirement for us. Without support for Shadow DOM, we can't seriously consider BugBug as our test automation framework of choice.

Hi @Paweł Bylina, it has been about six months since our last exchange. Do you have any update or timeline on Shadow DOM support? If there’s a beta or early version available, we’d be happy to test and provide feedback.

@Luke Ferguson We are in the process of doing so. We have proof of concept (PoC), but implementing shadow DOM has forced us to rewrite the entire selector recording mechanism. That's why it's taking so long. I still cannot provide an ETA because we are facing numerous challenges, making it somewhat unpredictable. Sorry for that.

Hello!
For our company this feature would be essential for testing bank payment methods within iframes with shadow DOM.
We believe that testing of all the payment methods during checkout is one of the most tedious scenarios.
It would be amazing to get this feature.

Unfortunately this is pretty complex ticket (combination of shadow DOM and iframes for example). We’ve released some core structures in december, which was a first step to fully implement this.
